|
Walk and Run to benefit breast cancer charities. 2010 Results (and feedback)! 2010 was a blow out year. We had wonderful weather (well, perhaps a bit warm) and over 1,100 registered walkers and runners. Thanks to everyone who walked, ran, volunteered or sponsored the cause. If you want to know how you finised - check out the results here. Do you have feedback about the event? Please leave a comment on our recently created Facebook page. What is Take the Lake 5k?The Take the Lake 5K is a charity run and walk around Wakefield's beautiful Lake Quannapowitt. Since the founding of the race ten years ago, over 3,500 local walkers and runners have participated in the event and we have raised more than $94,000 for two cancer related charities (The American Cancer Society and The Coalition for Cancer Survivorship). We hope you can join us for our 11th annual event on July 11th, 2010! If you might want to join us or perhaps take a sponsor role, please add your name to our mailing list (don't worry, we'll only send you one email a year - an invite with event details!). Year after year, runners and walkers, family and friends, children and grandparents have universally enjoyed this event.
Please come and 'Take the Lake' with us once again in 2011 (We'll post the date here...but if you want to be sure to get a reminder - add your email to our list. We only mail twice a year - with event reminders.

Dedication: Take the Lake is Dedicated to Janice (Mignosa) Frye Janice (Mignosa) Frye traces her roots to Wakefield. A voracious reader, Wakefield High School (class of 1980) scholar and thespian, and Lucius Beebe library regular, Janice loved all things literary. She carried that affection to UMass at Amherst (Journalism, 1984) and settled in Holyoke to marry Bob Frye, a teacher. Jan worked in the wonderful and caring community of Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Mass. Janice and Bob formed a wonderful young family, Samantha, Zoe, and Calvin Frye. The family carries on Janice's quiet love for books, home, and relationships. Janice lost her struggle with cancer in 1999. We would like to continue Jan's story by paying tribute to her and to the organizations that strive to help the countless local families afflicted by this cruel disease. Please join us in the "Take the Lake 5K" road race and walk to benefit The American Cancer Society and The New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.
